Due to the legends associated with him, another name has been spread across the world, The Little Dragon, better known as the vampire Count Dracula. While the nation was small, he was a hero who ascended to the throne and managed to turn back the numerous invasions of the Ottoman Empire that had trampled over every other country. Though the model for Dracula, he was not a vampire, but a man of devotion and great hero. Vlad's homeland, the Principality of Wallachia, was a small country stuck between the large nations of Turkey and Hungary.
He led a tragic life, during which his father, Vlad II Dracul, was murdered and his older brother Mircea was buried alive, both by rebellious boyars, and Vlad himself went to war against his younger brother, Radu the Handsome.
He was motivated by a love of his nation and a duty to maintain its sovereignty and power, so he purged all who would oppose its interests.
Though he had a very clear sense of justice, he was brutal in his methods, having executed about one fifth of the population of his country through his life. Vlad's war against Turkey was a desperate battle including guerrilla warfare and scorched earth tactics. Several times, Vlad left mountains of Turkish enemy soldiers he impaled. Vlad was captured by King Matthias of Hungary in on grounds that he was a collaborator to the Turks, and was confined for twelve years in prison.
His feats accomplished in defense of his country during the time were defiled, and all that was left was a legend passed down of a humiliating, blood-starved fiend. He turned his back on the on the Orthodox Church in and converted his country to Catholicism; the same year, he died in a battle against the Turkish army with his younger brother Radu.
Vlad was Lancer is dressed in a royal fashion, appearing as black as a shadow in the night, contrasted with his pale face and long, silk-like white hair. He gives off an overwhelming presence, causing ceaseless trembling wherever he happens to look. This does not stem from fear due to a violent nature, but rather that those exposed to his icy gaze recognize themselves as hopelessly weak and powerless existences before him. It is said that the difference between him and his counterpart is their aspects being different, this version being Vlad III's aspect as a King, while his counterpart is his aspect of a Warrior.
Though there is an aura of danger about him, he in fact possesses a modest and considerate personality.Achachi caporal
His opinions and unrestrained manner of expression lend easily to the impression that he is a sociopath who has disengaged himself from the standard mores of society. His somewhat obstinate nature worries Darnic, but he believes they will work fine together due to having the same goal.
He is the only one of the Servants who truly possesses a fervent desire to obtain his wish. He is angered by the legend of "Count Dracula" that has stained his name, so he wishes to restore his name's honor. He tries to ignore the reputation of the vampire modeled after him in a mature manner, but somehow, representations of him that he comes across will end up being destroyed. Despite being a Servant, he is the effective leader of the Black Faction.
He sits atop a throne as Lord of the castle, with Darnic serving at his side. He does note that although Darnic refers to him as Lord, that he will call him Master in turn and state that he is only a Servant.Vlad III between and —between December and January was a 15th-century ruler of Wallachia, an east European principality within modern Romania. Vlad became infamous for his brutal punishments, such as impalement, but also renowned by some for his attempt to fight the Muslim Ottomanseven though Vlad was only largely successful against Christian forces.
He ruled on three occasions—, toand —and experienced new fame in the modern era thanks to links to the novel "Dracula. Vlad was born between and into the family of Vlad II Dracul. The Ottomans were expanding into eastern and central Europe, bringing with them a rival religion to that of the Catholic and Orthodox Christians who had previously dominated the region.
However, the religious conflict can be overstated, as there was an old-fashioned secular power struggle between the Kingdom of Hungary and the Ottomans over both Wallachia—a relatively new state—and its leaders.
However, Vlad II then broke with the Emperor and joined the Ottomans in order to try to balance the rival powers swirling around his country. Everyone grew suspicious, and Vlad was briefly ousted and imprisoned by the Ottomans. However, he was soon released and reconquered the country. The future Vlad III was sent along with Radu, his younger brother, to the Ottoman court as a hostage to ensure that his father stayed true to his word.
Vlad II and his eldest son were killed by rebel boyars—Wallachian noblemen—inand a new rival called Vladislav II was put on the throne by the pro-Hungarian governor of Transylvania, called Hunyadi.
Wallachia had no clear system of inheritance to the throne. In practice, outside forces mainly the Ottomans and Hungarians could militarily support friendly claimants to the throne. What followed were 29 separate reigns of 11 separate rulers, from toincluding Vlad III thrice.
It was from this chaos, and a patchwork of local boyar factions, that Vlad sought first the throne, and then to establish a strong state through both bold actions and outright terror. However, Vladislav II soon returned from crusade and forced Vlad out.Sleight of Hand - My Hero Academia
There is little information on what exactly happened during this period, but Vlad went from the Ottomans to Moldova, to a peace with Hunyadi, to Transylvania, back and forth between these three, falling out with Hunyadi, renewed support from him, military employment, and inan invasion of Wallachia—in which Vladislav II was defeated and killed.
At the same time Hunyadi, coincidentally, died. Vlad began to rule in a bloody manner designed to strike fear into the hearts of opponents and allies alike. He ordered people to be impaled on stakes, and his atrocities were inflicted on anyone who upset him, no matter where they came from.
However, his rule has been misinterpreted. During the communist era in Romania, historians outlined a vision of Vlad as a socialist hero, focused largely around the idea that Vlad attacked the excesses of the boyar aristocracy, thus benefiting the ordinary peasants.
Some chronicles record that Vlad bloodily carved his way through the Boyars to strengthen and centralize his power, adding to his other, and horrific, reputation. However, while Vlad did slowly increase his power over disloyal boyars, this is now believed to have been a gradual attempt to try and solidify a fictionalized state beset by rivals, and neither a sudden orgy of violence—as some of the stories claim—or the actions of a proto-communist.
The existing powers of the boyars were left alone, as just the favorites and enemies who changed position. This took place over several years, rather than in one brutal session.
However, he was soon assailed by plots from Hungary, who changed their support to a rival voivode. War resulted, during which Vlad supported a Moldovan noble who would both later fight him and earn the epithet "Stephen the Great. The Christian parts of Europe were moving toward a crusade against the Ottomans. Radu had lived in the Empire for a long time and was pre-disposed to the Ottomans; they did not plan on establishing direct rule over the region.
Vlad was forced back, but not before a daring night raid to try to kill the sultan himself. Vlad terrified the Ottomans with a field of impaled people, but Vlad was defeated and Radu took the throne. Vlad did not, as some of the pro-communist and pro-Vlad historians have claimed, defeat the Ottomans and then fall to a revolt of rebel boyars.
Many leaders have come and gone, but Vlad remains a well-known figure in European history. In some parts of Eastern Europe he is a hero for his role in fighting the Ottomans—although he fought Christians just as much, and more successfully—whereas in much of the rest of the world he is infamous for his brutal punishments, a byword for cruelty, and bloodthirstiness.
Verbal attacks on Vlad were spreading while he was still very much alive, partly to justify his imprisonment and partly as a result of human interest in his brutality. He serves as the main antagonist throughout the series, as the archenemy to Danny.
Vlad's friendship with Jack ended when a prototype ghost portal they had built overloaded and blasted Vlad in the face with ectoplasmic energy. Vlad was hospitalized with ecto-acne for years. Rather than stay in contact with Maddie to win continue to win her or use his ghost powers to persuade her, he allowed arrogance, pride and self pity to ensue which for the moment ruined his social life, and his spirit.
However, this accident also infused his DNA with ectoplasm, causing him to become a half-ghost and giving him ghostly powers. After he recovered, he spent the next bitter 20 years honing and taking advantage of his newfound powers, and using them for his own personal gain in order to become rich and famous, all with the hope of eventually getting Maddie back. He possessed wealthy business tycoons to make them hand their companies over to him, took part in invisible insider stock market trading, and committed many invisible burglaries in order to amass his vast fortune.
He founded and currently owns Vladco which would buy out Axion Labs later on and has been featured in a number of magazines Fortunate Magazine named him "Man of the Year" in Despite the fact that Vlad made his first appearance in " Bitter Reunions ," he reveals to Danny that he had sent the ectopuses in the first episode to test Jack.
Also in "Bitter Reunions," Vlad sends three of his ghost vulture henchmen to kill Jack, only to be thwarted by Danny after discovering their plan, but not their motive. Despite their failure, Vlad invites the Fentons to a college reunion at his mansion in Wisconsin.
However, it was really just part of a plot to humiliate Jack and to get his wife Maddie, the woman of his dreams, to leave him. That night, Danny's ghost sense alerts him to the presence of a ghost who introduces himself as "Vlad Plasmius.
Vlad knocks him unconscious, and he unwillingly transforms back to Danny Fenton in front of him, making Vlad realize that his soon-to-be arch rival is Jack's son.
On the night of the reunion, Vlad casually asks Danny to go down to the lab to get a present for Jack, but when Danny does so, Skulker captures him with the spectral energy neutralizer. Vlad enters and reveals to Danny who he is, ultimately offering Danny the chance to join up with him and help him further train and hone his powers in exchange for renouncing his father.
Danny angrily declines, leaving Vlad to put the next phase of his plan into action. He possesses Jack, makes him cause chaos during the reunion to ruin his reputation, then captures Maddie Fenton.
Danny ironically blackmails Vlad by threatening to expose the both of them to his parents unless they call a truce, to which Vlad agrees, though he vowed to return. Vlad appears later as the mysterious provider of Valerie's infamous ghost hunting suit and weapons, although she is unaware of his true intentions behind it. When Maddie takes a reluctant Danny along as an attempt to bond with him, the two are both tricked into parachuting out of their plane, conveniently finding themselves at Vlad's Rocky Mountain retreat.
There, Vlad attempts to convince them both to stay with him by confessing his undying love for Maddie. They refuse and storm off into the woods.
While Maddie is sleeping in her tent, Danny is captured and confronted by Vlad, who shorts out Danny's powers for a set period of time with a device he invented, the Plasmius Maximusand leaves him at the mercy of his ghost animals.
However, Danny is saved by his mother and, with little choice, is forced to return to Vlad's home to find a means to get back to Amity Park. Maddie uses her charm on Vlad to find a phone, which makes Danny sick. She goes off to make the call while Danny, left alone with Vlad, falsely declares him as his "new dad" to let his guard down.Following the Byzantine Civil Warthe Ottoman capture of Gallipoliand the decisive Battle of Kosovothe Ottoman Empire was poised to conquer the entirety of the Balkans and also sought and expressed desire to expand further north into Central Europe beginning with the Hungarian lands.
Initial Hungarian success culminated in the Crusade of Varnathough without significant outside support the Hungarians were defeated. Nonetheless the Ottomans suffered more defeats at Belgradeeven after the conquest of Constantinople. In particular, the notorious Vlad the Impalerwith limited Hungarian help, resisted Ottoman rule until the Ottomans placed his brother, a man less feared and less hated by the populace, on the throne of Wallachia.
Ottoman success was once again halted at Moldavia due to Hungarian intervention, but the Turks finally succeeded when Moldavia and then Belgrade fell to Bayezid II and Suleiman the Magnificentrespectively. The war continued with the Habsburgs now asserting primacy in the conflict with Suleiman and his successors. The northern and most of the central parts of Hungary managed to remain free from Ottoman rule, but the Kingdom of Hungary, the most powerful state east of Vienna under Matthias I, was now divided and constantly threatened by Ottoman ambitions in the region.
In the century after the death of Osman I inOttoman rule began to extend over the eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans, slowly at first and later in earnest. His latter campaigns in the Balkans were aimed not so much at conquest and subjugation as at drawing the Serbs, Bosnians, Wallachians and Bulgarians into the fold of the Roman Catholic faith and at forming a united front against the Turks. It was relatively easy to subdue the Balkan Orthodox countries by arms, but to convert them was a different matter. Despite Louis' efforts, the peoples of the Balkans remained faithful to the Eastern Orthodox Church and their attitude toward Hungary remained ambiguous.
Louis annexed Moldavia in and established a vassal principality there, before conquering Vidin in The rulers of Serbia, Walachia, Moldavia, and Bulgaria became his vassals. They regarded powerful Hungary as a potential menace to their national identity.
For this reason, Hungary could never regard the Serbs and Wallachians as reliable allies in subsequent wars against the Turks. He seized the city of Vidin on 2 May ; the region was under Hungarian rule until In Byzantine Emperor John V visited Hungary to beg for help against the Ottoman Turks, who were in increasing conflict with the Balkan vassal states.
The Battle of Nicopolis 25 September is thought to be the first encounter between Hungary and the Ottoman Empire, where a broad alliance of Christian monarchs and the Knights Hospitaller were crushed by a numerically superior Turkish army under their 4th Sultan Bayazid I. Despite these successes the Ottomans were dealt a major setback when at Ankara in Timur the Great of the Timurid Empire defeated and captured the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid the Thunderbolt so named for the speed of his crushing victories against his Christian opponents, most notably at Nicopolis.
After a decade of internecine battles, Mehmed I emerged victorious and reestablished the Ottoman Empire and Byzantine Emperor accepted its vassalship and agreed to pay tribute. Murad IIthe successor to Mehmed I, proved to be a man of far greater military skills then his peaceful predecessor. Inno longer professing suzerainty to the Byzantines, he laid siege to Constantinople, which narrowly avoided becoming an Ottoman conquest.
Vladimir the Great
However he had managed to capture lands surrounding Constantinople. With Byzantium no longer a threat, Murad II began his war against his Christian opponents, attacking Macedonia and capturing Thessalonika from the Venetians in Between and the Ottomans made a show of strength in Albania, but the country survived due to intervention from the Kingdom of Hungary, whose borders now neared those of the Ottoman Empire.
In the s and s, the Hungarian military leader John Hunyadi became the key architect of campaigns against the Ottoman Empire. In he scored a pitched battle victory at Semendria over Ishak Bey. The following year, he annihilated an Ottoman force invading Transylvania at Sibiu. Because supplies for the Crusader army were low, Hunyadi concluded a ten-year peace treaty with Murad II, presumably on Hunyadi's terms, for it was the triumphant Hungarian that entered Buda in February Ten years was the maximum time permitted by Islamic law for a treaty with an "infidel".
The peace was short lived, as Cardinal Julian Cesarini incited the Hungarians to break the treaty and attack the Turks once more.Vladimir's father was prince Sviatoslav of the Rurik dynasty. Although Christianity spread in the region under Oleg's rule, Vladimir had remained a thoroughgoing pagan, taking eight hundred concubines along with numerous wives and erecting pagan statues and shrines to gods. He may have attempted to reform Slavic paganism in an attempt to identify himself with the various gods worshipped by his subjects.
Slav gods Stribog and Dazhd'bog; Mokosh - a goddess representing Mother Nature "worshipped by Finnish tribes"; Khors and Simargl, "both of which had Iranian origins, were included, probably to appeal to the Poliane. Immediately after the murder of Fyodor and Ioann, early medieval Rus' saw persecutions against Christians, many of whom escaped or concealed their belief. However, Prince Vladimir mused over the incident long after, and not least for political considerations. According to the early Slavic chronicle called Tale of Bygone Years, which describes life in Kievan Rus' up to the yearhe sent his envoys throughout the civilized world to judge first hand the major religions of the time, Islam, Roman Catholicism, Judaism, and Byzantine Orthodoxy.
They were most impressed with their visit to Constantinople, saying, "We knew not whether we were in Heaven or on Earth… We only know that God dwells there among the people, and their service is fairer than the ceremonies of other nations. The Primary Chronicle reports that in the yearafter consultation with his boyarsVladimir the Great sent envoys to study the religions of the various neighboring nations whose representatives had been urging him to embrace their respective faiths.
The result is described by the chronicler Nestor. Of the Muslim Bulgarians of the Volga the envoys reported there is no gladness among them, only sorrow and a great stench. We cannot exist without that pleasure.
In the churches of the Germans his emissaries saw no beauty; but at Constantinoplewhere the full festival ritual of the Byzantine Church was set in motion to impress them, they found their ideal: "We no longer knew whether we were in heaven or on earth", they reported, describing a majestic Divine Liturgy in Hagia Sophia"nor such beauty, and we know not how to tell of it.

Basil and the Church of the Tithes Arab sources, both Muslim and Christian, present a different story of Vladimir's conversion.
